Welcome to SKAMPAWS Burmese Cats
My name is Margaret Dewhurst. My husband Tony and I were first introduced to the Burmese
cat when visting a friend whose chocolate girl was nursing her first litter of kittens.
This was a while ago, over twenty five years in fact. Although I always had cats when I
was growing up I had never met a Burmese cat before. I was greeted by a litter of the most
gorgeous, inquisitive and loveable kittens who proved impossible to ignore. Within minutes
we were under their spell.
Well you can guess the rest. The day visiting friends turned into a day playing, cuddling
and nursing these adorable babies. There was one who followed us around, curled up on my
lap and looked up with lovely amber eyes, the spell was cast, she seemed to have chosen
us, we just knew we wanted her to be ours!
It was a very long wait until she was old enough to leave her mum but at last she came
home to share our house with us. When she was old enough to breed we kept one of her
kittens, a brown. It wasn't long before we bought a lilac girl, who I enjoyed showing but
by now we had a family of 4 children and were about to start our own business so our cats
became family pets giving their affection to the children as they grew up. We now live in
Christchurch in Dorset, the family has grown up and moved on I am once again able to show
and breed my Burmese cats. It was worth the wait!
All our kittens are part of the family, growing up and living with the other cats and our
dog, in a FeLV and FIV negative household, enjoying regular visits from the family and
grandchildren, ensuring they are sociable and confident, ideal as family pets.
The Burmese cat is a wonderful cat, full of character, sometimes they think they are dogs,
retrieving and playing, you can have a conversation with them (of course they always have
the last word). They are very intelligent and affectionate and enjoy human company. Each
cat has its own character. They make loveable, loyal and entertaining companions for all
age groups.
