All our kittens are born and live in the kitten area of our house,
giving them the opportunity to learn to socialise and mix with the other cats, dog and
humans until they are 13 weeks old. By this time they will have been fully vaccinated,
wormed and given a thorough check by the vet. They will be taught to use a litter tray by
their mother and encouraged to eat a variety of foods making it easier for them to adapt
to their new home. We will supply a diet sheet with each kitten.
Before you collect your kitten it is vital that you have a proper carrying basket for it
(the cardboard ones are not always escape proof). A scatching post / bed is also useful,
this gives the kitten something to climb, helping to wear down claws and use up some of
its energy, before snuggling down for a well earned nap. All our kittens have been used to
this as a way of letting off steam. Also, just like a child, they love kitten toys and
will play for hours with their favourite one and again like a child will suddenly run out
of energy and sleep. You also need a litter tray and a bag of cat litter, a dish for food
and one for water. Often it is a good idea for them to have their own small blanket or
soft toy, which can be brought with you when you collect the kitten. We will get the mums
scent on this so the kitten will still have a scent that is familiar, this will make it
feel more secure when it moves to it's new home.
When you get your kitten home it is best to register it with your vet straight away so
that they can give you advice on future boosters, worming, flea protection and when is the
best time to have your kitten neutered. It is a good idea to have them micro chipped
giving them their own identity which can be scanned by a vet if they go missing making it
easier for them to be returned to you.
Having done all this now is the time to enjoy your new companion who will remain loyal and
loving for the rest of its life.
